for the chinese new year, i took a vacation to thailand. i was there for three weeks. the weather was hot during the day, which was exactly what i needed, and cool in the evenings. first we went to go visit friends in chiangmai and got out to see some jungle. chiang mai is a nice nice city. very relaxed and lots of comforting things: good book stores, good coffee, friendly people, and good english language publications. lots of things that are real hard to come by here in china. most of my pictures are from the ecotrek and my roommate and i went on to the village areas of mae sariang along the burma-thai border.

after chiangmai, we headed back down south to spend 10 days on the beaches of koh chang, koh maak, and koh wai. most tourists head over to the opposite side of the gulf of thailand, and with the recent political situation, the beaches were not overrun with people. all of the them were nice and peaceful. koh maak was probably my favorite because the people there were the friendliest out of all the beaches i've been to in thailand. its a real small community of entrepeneurs, so you can get actually spend time talking with them. anyway, i didnt take many pictures because i was just relaxing. click on the picture above to go to the album.
